Key Responsibilities:

Reports to: Associate Director for Local Fundraising and Communications

Financial Authority / budget: (amount controlled/impacted by the position). Support management of the Communications team budget.

Purpose of the position:

To provide leadership and support to the NO Communications team to ensure a fully functional, well-focused and high-value performing function for quality service delivery, contributing to child well-being.

Responsible for ensuring that WV information is consistently and appropriately managed within the organisation, including branding and image building to protect and enhance the reputation and programming of WVZ.

The Communications Manager will contribute towards the attainment of WVZ National Strategy through the implementation of activities aligned to the five focus areas, namely; Donor/public engagement communications, Media communications, internal communications, Emergency and Advocacy communications.

  • Manage and coordinate the production and provision of high quality information resources and materials for donor and public engagement.
  • Ensure engagement of local and international media on WVZ developmental programs to ensure promotion and protection of its public image and ministry.
  • Manage the dissemination of internal and strategic information within NO and the WV Partnership.
  • Manage communication’s emergency response and position WVZ as a responsive relief agency.
  • Provide advocacy support through focused communications on key advocacy campaigns.
  • Assist in budgeting and planning for the Communications department .

  • Strong understanding of communications requirements of the WV partnership
  • Possess excellent public relations skills necessary in dealing with the media, donors and other stakeholders
  • Must be a team player
  • Able to travel extensively and work in the field
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, internet and WVI databases
  • Must be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities.
  • Attend and lead in daily devotions and attend Chapel
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

  •  Degree in Mass Communication or Journalism
  • 5 years of experience in Communications/Public Relations/Marketing field
  • Should have at least 5 years’ experience in communications and Public relations field

Working Environment / Conditions:

  • Work environment: Office-based with frequent travel to the field
  • Travel: 30% Domestic/international travel is required.
  • On call: N/A
