About the Role:
Our client, based Lusaka in Lusaka and operating in the Educational Sector, seeks a meticulous and analytical Accountant to manage the financial health of the organization. The Accountant will oversee accounting operations, prepare financial statements, ensure compliance with regulations, and support strategic financial planning.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Record-Keeping:
– Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all financial transactions, including income, expenses, and payroll.
– Record financial data in accounting software, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
– Oversee accounts payable and receivable, ensuring invoices are issued and payments collected on time.

2. Budgeting and Financial Planning:
– Assist in preparing annual budgets and monitoring monthly financial performance.
– Provide budget forecasts based on financial trends and projected revenue.
Advise management on necessary budget adjustments to meet financial goals.

2. Financial Reporting:
– Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
– Conduct variance analysis to evaluate financial performance against budgets.
– Provide actionable financial insights for strategic decision-making.

3. Compliance and Audit Support:
– Ensure compliance with Zambian tax laws, accounting standards, and company policies.
– Prepare and file statutory returns such as VAT, PAYE, NAPSA, and income tax.
– Support external audits by providing necessary documentation and reconciliations.

4. Payroll Management:
– Process monthly payroll, ensuring accurate and timely payments.
– Maintain records of employee deductions and benefits, ensuring compliance with employment laws.

5. Cash Flow Management:
– Monitor daily cash flow to ensure operational needs are met.
– Prepare cash flow forecasts to anticipate financial requirements.
– Reconcile bank statements monthly to ensure accuracy in financial records.

6. Financial Analysis and Strategy Support:
– Conduct cost-benefit analyses and financial risk assessments.
– Recommend strategies to optimize profitability and reduce costs.
– Collaborate on long-term financial planning and growth initiatives.

Qualifications, Experience, Exposure and Skills:
– Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, ZICA) is an added advantage.
– Experience: Minimum of 3 years in accounting or finance, preferably within the consultancy, education, or services sector.
– Skills: Strong knowledge of accounting principles, tax regulations, and financial reporting standards.Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and Microsoft Excel.

Work Environment:
– Location: Primarily office-based.
– Schedule: Full-time, with occasional extended hours during financial reporting or audit periods.
